              - If they’re worn or leaking, they need to be replaced.

With winter / snow tires mounted on their own wheels, you can install a Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Package yourself. When the weather changes, you're ready. When the seasons change again, your summer package goes back on. With it comes performance optimized for each season.

Coolant is the mix of antifreeze and water

A few years ago I was driving my ’85 powder blue Dodge RAM Charger with about 80,000 miles on it. I was going up a hill in West Hartford and heard a noise like a tin can rolling down the road. I looked back and saw my drive shaft bouncing down the hill. I put it in four wheel drive and drove to my West Hartford mechanic to get it fixed. What could I have done to prevent that? [Read More]

Increasingly, automotive repair and service is becoming a high-tech profession, note officials with the non-profit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Old images die hard, but yesterday's mechanics have become today's technicians, complete with hand-held computer diagnostic tools and a wall full of credentials attesting to their abilities.

In a recent poll of ASE-certified automotive technicians, over four-fifths said they used a computer on the job, more than two-thirds said they owned a computer at home, and over half said they had access to the Internet.

Child Passenger Safety

ChuggingtonIn 2009, there were nearly 62 million children age 14 and younger in the U.S., 20% of the total resident population. To help keep them safe on the highways, NHTSA advises that children 12 and younger should always sit in rear seats, and that parents should always read child restraint instructions and the vehicle owner manual instructions.

Car Seats for Children: Birth to 12 Months

Children under the age of 1 should always ride in a REAR-FACING car seat.

There are different types of rear-facing car seats: Infant-only car seats can only be used rear-facing. Convertible and 3-in-1 car seats typically have higher height and weight limits for the rear-facing position, allowing you to keep your child rear-facing for a longer period of time.

Follow your car seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual on how to install.

Car Seats for Children: 1 to 3 Years Old

Keep your 1 to 3 year old children in REAR-FACING car seats for as long as possible.

It's the best way to keep them safe. They should remain in a rear-facing car seat until they reach the top height or weight limit allowed by your car seat's manufacturer.

Once outgrown the rear-facing car seat, they are ready to travel in a FORWARD-FACING car seat with a harness.

Follow your car seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual on how to install.

Car Seats for Children: 4 to 7 Years Old

Keep your 4 to 7 year old children in FORWARD-FACING car seats with a harness until they reach the top height or weight limit allowed by your car seat's manufacturer.

Once they outgrow their forward-facing car seat with a harness, it's time to travel in a BOOSTER SEAT ... and still in the back seat.

Follow your car seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual on how to install.

Car Seats for Children: 8 to 12 Years Old

Keep your 8 to 12 year old children in BOOSTER SEATS until they are big enough to fit in a seat belt properly.

Seat Belts
For a seat belt to fit properly the lap belt must lie snugly across the upper thighs, not the stomach. The shoulder belt should lie snugly across the shoulder and chest and not cross the neck or face.

Remember: your child should still ride in the back seat because it is safer there.

Follow your car seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual on how to install.
